Trinamool Congress Abhishek Banerjee’s wife Rujira, under investigation in the coal case, was barred from boarding an international flight at the Kolkata airport yesterday.
The agency called him to the airport.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee attacked the BJP after they barred Rujira Banerjee from flying out of the country despite informing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) about her travel plans.
“What the ED and CBI are doing is unfortunate. They are harassing people. Abhishek Banerjee’s mother-in-law is sick, and so his wife was going to meet his mother. The Supreme Court said that if he left the city, he could have informed the ED and done so, which He already did. But summoning him to the airport is nothing but harassment,” Mamata Banerjee said.
Abhishek Banerjee said his wife’s travel plans were shared with the ED out of politeness. “If I had bad intentions, I wouldn’t have told them,” he said.
The TMC claimed that the BJP was upset by Abhishek Banerjee’s state-wide yatra and the response to the ‘Trinamool Nabo Zoar Prakha’. “You have seen that ever since our Trinamool New Tide march has started, the opposition wants to block it and is looking for ways to harass us and sure enough I am mentally deranged. I will tell them that there is no use in doing that,” Mr. Banerjee said.
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “I will not bow down even if the ED arrests my wife, my children or me. With due respect to the Prime Minister’s chair, I would like to remind him that he is almost twice my age. Your political experience is my age.” May be equal. Still, you cannot fight me politically in the people’s court.”
Reacting to Abhishek’s allegations, the BJP said the ED is an independent body.
BJP leader Rahul Sinha said, “BJP has nothing to do with CBI or ED. The allegations are baseless. If they have any allegations, they can always go to court.”
