The Secunderabad-Agartala Express was halted at Odisha’s Brahmapur railway station around noon on Tuesday after passengers alerted railway officials about smoke emanating from an air-conditioning unit inside a coach, officials said.
The smoke was brought under control immediately, but terrified passengers refused to board the coach fearing another electrical failure. They demanded the transfer of the coach.
Some passengers first noticed smoke in the B-5 coach and raised the alarm. After this, most of the passengers disembarked and refused to board the train, an official said.
“It was learned that there was a minor electrical problem in Coach No. B-5 of Secunderabad-Agartala Express near Brahmpur station. The staff on duty immediately looked into the problem and rectified it,” said an ECOR official.
