The ‘Nothing’ smartphones will be manufactured at BYD’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi:

Smart device maker Nothing will manufacture its upcoming smartphone phone (2) in India, which it will launch next month, a senior company official said on Monday.

The company will manufacture the smartphones at BYD’s manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.

“The phone (2) is going to be made in India – Tamil Nadu. Phones made in India will be for use in India,” said Manu Sharma, VP and GM, One India.

The company started manufacturing smartphones in India last year with the first version of the phone (1).

“It’s very important for us to access the Indian market, drive demand and manage supplies. We wanted to be closer to the market. Our phone (1) is very successful in India and globally. Our demand is that large volumes are manufactured right here in India,” Sharma said.

He said the company will use recycled materials in the phone (2).

“We will use 100 percent recycled copper, steel, tin, etc. and 80 percent plastic used in the phone (2),” Sharma added.

The London-based company is also in talks with more manufacturing partners to manufacture its other products.

“While we continue to manufacture our phone in India, we will continue to evaluate opportunities for other products as well,” Sharma said.
