Mumbai:

A 27-year-old woman drowned in the sea in Mumbai’s Bandra last month – a video of which has now surfaced on social media.

Jyoti Sonar was swept away by the high tide at Bandstand near Bandra Fort on June 9, officials said.

Mrs. Sonar was clicking a photo with her husband Mukesh sitting on a rock, while their three children watched from a distance, when she drowned in the sea.

Ms Sonar’s children can be heard screaming in the video, as huge waves wash over her.

The video has gone viral on social media.

The police reached the spot after being informed by the witnesses. His body was recovered by the Mumbai Coast Guard on June 10 after a 20-hour rescue operation.

Mukesh told the police that he was saved after a man pulled him to the bank, but Jyoti was swept away by the current. “I lost my balance and we both slipped. A man caught me when I grabbed my wife, but she could not be saved,” he said.
