Brony James, the oldest son of NBA superstar LeBron James, is in stable condition after suffering a heart attack during practice with his college basketball team, the James family said Tuesday. Brony James, 18, collapsed on the court during practice with his University of Southern California teammates on Monday in Los Angeles. “Bronnie James suffered a heart attack yesterday,” a spokesman for the James family said in a statement to AFP.
“Medical staff were able to treat Bronnie and transport him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and is no longer in the ICU.
“We ask for the James family’s respect and privacy, and we will update the media as more information becomes available. LeBron and Savannah want to publicly express their deepest gratitude and appreciation for the incredible work of the USC medical and athletic staff and their dedication to the safety of our athletes.”
Celebrity news website TMZ.com reported that James was unconscious before being rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Brony James committed to play for the USC Trojans in May after becoming one of the top prospects in US high school basketball.
In an outstanding senior year campaign at the exclusive Sierra Canyon school in Los Angeles, he scored 15 points and sank five 3-pointers in the All-Star Game for top college prospects.
His famous father — the NBA’s all-time leading scorer as well as a four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Most Valuable Player — has long spoken of his desire to extend his career to play in the league with his son.
The teenage James could be eligible for the NBA draft after one season for the Trojans, who are expected to have a strong squad next season. Some analysts have already pegged James as a top 10 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Brony James will turn 20 in October 2024, the same month as the start of the 2024-25 NBA campaign. Father will turn 40 in December 2024.
