India’s ambitious Project Cheetah seems to have hit a turbulent phase. After a brief respite, two cheetahs in Kuno National Park died in quick succession, raising questions about the project’s effectiveness. The death of Suraj, a South African cheetah, marks the 8th cheetah death since the project was launched on September 17, 2022 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The body of Suraj, a sub-adult male, was discovered by a patrol team in the wee hours of the morning, shocking the authorities involved in the project. The MP government is also concerned about the repeated deaths of cheetahs.
