US Central Command (CENTCOM) Chief General Michael Eric Kurilla, in a meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir on Monday, acknowledged Pakistan’s continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the region.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Kurilla called on General Muneer in Rawalpindi today.
“The visiting dignitaries acknowledged and appreciated the achievements of the Pakistan Army in the fight against terrorism and Pakistan’s continued efforts to bring peace and stability to the region,” the statement said.
“During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, (the) regional security situation and defense cooperation were discussed,” ISPR added.
It stated that both sides reiterated their desire to further improve bilateral relations in all areas.
The meeting comes days after both countries asked the interim Afghan government to prevent their soil from becoming a safe haven for terrorist attacks.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press conference last week Said The Afghan Taliban regime has taken responsibility for controlling terrorist activities emanating from its territory.
“We have made it very clear that we believe the Taliban have a responsibility to prevent Afghanistan from being used as a safe haven to carry out terrorist attacks,” he said in response to a question.
