Punjab FC is fielding young players.
Punjab FC, owned by Roundglass Sports, has strengthened its squad with five new signings – forward Ranjit Singh Pandre, midfielders Amarjit Singh Kiam and Ricky Shabong and defenders Nikhil Prabhu and Tejas Krishna.
A former I-League winner of Chennai City FC, Ranjith scored three goals and assisted two goals in the I-League 2022-23 season with Mumbai Kenkre FC. The striker joined Church Boys United in Nepal’s A Division League and scored two goals to help the club lift their maiden title. Joining Punjab FC for the next two seasons, Ranjith will be a key figure in the striking force.
Amarjit Singh Kiam, captain of India’s 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup team, joins Punjab FC on loan from FC Goa. The versatile midfielder is known for his leadership skills and relentless energy in the middle of the park. He will play a crucial role in coach Stychos Vergetis’ team.
Meghalayan midfielder Ricky Shabong rose through the ranks of Indian Arrows and later joined the Mohun Bagan Super Giants, with whom they lifted the Indian Super League title in the 2022-23 season. The midfielder joins Punjab FC on a two-year stint and is expected to become a central figure in the upcoming season.
After making his Indian Super League debut with Odisha FC last season, defender Nikhil Prabhu joined Punjab FC and later moved to FC Goa in the second half of the season. He will be joined by another defender, Tejas Krishna, who was a key figure in the Kerala Blasters Reserves when they finished runners-up in the Reliance Foundation Developmental League 2022 tournament. The young pair will be the defenders in Punjab Football Club’s defense in the coming season.
Commenting on the new signings, Punjab FC’s Technical Director Nicholas Topoliatis said, “We are delighted to have these young players in our midst for the upcoming season. We believe they will contribute significantly to the inspiring brand of football we want to play and the success of the club going forward.
