Carlos Alcarez and Daniil Medvedev will be eyeing their second Grand Slam title when they meet in the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles semi-finals. Both players won the US Open – Medvedev in 2021, followed by Alcaraz a year later – and will make their maiden semi-final appearance at Wimbledon. Top seed and world number one Carlos Alcaraz has dropped just two sets so far at Wimbledon 2023. After winning the first two matches, Nicolas dropped a set against Jarry in the third and fourth rounds. The Spaniard had to come back from a set down against Matteo Berretini. Alcaraz won in straight sets against Holger Run in the semi-finals.
Daniel Medvedev, on the other hand, has already dropped three sets. His semi-final clash against debutant Christopher Eubanks went to five sets, although the Russian won the first set. He also dropped the first set against Marton Fucsovics in the third round.
This is the second time that Carlos Alcarez and Daniil Medvedev will meet in the Wimbledon men’s singles semi-finals. Two years ago, Medvedev outlasted the then 18-year-old Alcaraz and 15 months later the Spaniard faced off as world no.
Both players have been sensational this season – they are the only two players to have 40+ wins on tour this season. Medvedev has won 46 times and lost eight, while semi-final opponent Carlos Alcaraz is one win behind and has suffered just five losses. While Medvedev goes 2-2 at Wimbledon 2023, Alcarez leads the grass court statistics with 10-0 wins.
