This newly launched resource is accessible and delivered entirely online through an innovative micro-learning approach, enabling courses to be completed at any speed and through short, sharp modules.

As participation continues to grow across the global cricket community, the latest offering enhances the ambition of the ICC training and education programme, which ultimately seeks to enhance the playing experience in member nations by improving access to world-class educational resources.

The successful release of other resources as part of the ICC Umpire Foundation Certificate training and education program follows. The program was launched in October 2021 with the release of the ICC Coaching Foundation Certificate – the first step in the ICC’s coach education pathway, which recently celebrated 6,000th Global graduate.

Other courses that have experienced strong growth globally include the ICC Coaching Course Level 1, the ICC Pitch Curator Foundation Certificate and the Creo Cricket Program Facilitator Training Course.

Speaking at the launch of the ICC’s first Certified Umpire Education Course, General Manager – Development William Glenwright commented, “The release of the ICC Umpire Foundation Certificate represents a significant moment in the development of the sport. With better access to educational courses than ever before, the ICC remains committed to improving the playing experience for participants around the world.

“This course complements the other resources we have launched over the last two years to raise the quality of the best coaches, umpires and curators in member countries.”

More courses, including the ICC Coaching Course Level 2, are also scheduled to be released later in 2023.

Key to the course’s future success will be the workforce trained by the ICC to accredit umpires across 108 member nations. After a week-long workshop in Dubai last month, the first group of 18 Umpiring Master Educators undertook theory and practical sessions in preparation for launching the new course.

ICC Master Educators represent the highest level of the workforce hierarchy that supports the delivery of educational programs in ICC Member States. They are responsible for training and accrediting ICC tutors – while the tutors themselves deliver courses to accredit coaches, umpires and pitch curators.

Glenwright added. “By training a global workforce of Master Educators, we can ensure that each ICC member has the necessary tools to train the local workforce so that they can deliver the various components of the ICC training and education program when needed.”

Claire Polozak, who certified the first batch of ICC Umpire Master Educators in Dubai last month, commented, “I am delighted to be part of the first group of Master Educators to deliver ICC Umpire Education courses to passionate communities in my region.

“The ICC Training and Education Program has already enjoyed great success in increasing the number and quality of qualified coaches around the world, and I and the rest of the group are excited to see the impact this resource will have in increasing the number of high-quality umpires officiating cricket matches around the world.”
