What does a flood watch mean?

A flood watch is in effect for Greater Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton until Monday morning. A flood watch does not mean that flooding will occur, but that it is possible if it rains.

If roads are flooded, drivers should not attempt to plow their cars through the water; A vehicle can be shut down and become trapped in floodwaters. Avoid streets that are known to flood during heavy rains.

What does a tornado watch mean?

Like a flood watch, a tornado watch does not necessarily mean that a tornado will form, but that it is possible if atmospheric conditions are right. A tornado watch usually covers a large area, while a tornado warning is limited to a small area, meaning a tornado is likely or has been detected.
