RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – All of central North Carolina is now placed under a slight risk of severe weather Sunday evening, and the western edge of the area has been upgraded to a slight risk.
As the threat of severe storms increased over the past few hours, we decided to issue an A CBS 17 Storm Team Alert Day.
The main threat Sunday evening will be damaging winds over 60 miles per hour, although small hail is possible along with strong storms.
Sunday started off calm, but thunderstorms are expected in our area over the next few hours.
Currently, the most likely time for severe weather across central North Carolina is between 6 and 11 p.m.
In addition to strong winds and large hail, any storm that develops will be capable of occasional lightning and heavy rain.
