Key highlights

  • MS Dhoni’s old job appointment letter has resurfaced online
  • Dhoni is also included in the list of richest cricketers in the world
  • Dhoni led CSK to the IPL title in 2023
Despite retiring from international cricket three years ago, MS Dhoni remains one of the richest cricketers in the world. 2011 World Cup winner Nayak’s net worth is Rs. 1040 crores, which is slightly less than current Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli (Rs. 1050 crores).
For most of his international career, Dhoni was part of the highest bracket of Indian players in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) contract terms and was one of the highest earners every season for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Also, Dhoni has participated in various advertisements and brand endorsements.
Recently, an old recruitment letter of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2012 has gone viral on social media. His records confirm his title of ‘Vice President’ at Indian Cements. However, what has surprised the cricket fans is MS Dhoni’s reward. According to a document shared by IPL founder Lalit Modi in 2017, the Indian cricket legend’s monthly salary was Rs. 43,000.

It should be noted that the company owns the CSK franchise. What is remarkable is that the letter was at the height of his profession, when Dhoni led India to their second ever World Cup title a year ago in 2011.

Although he last played for India in 2019, Dhoni led CSK in the IPL. In fact, he became IPL’s most successful skipper after guiding CSK to their fifth title after beating Gujarat Titans by a nail-biter in Ahmedabad earlier this year. Dhoni has led CSK to glory in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021.

While many thought the 2023 season would be his last in the league, Dhoni hinted at a comeback in 2024. However, he cautioned that it will depend on how his body reacts to the tough season. The legendary wicketkeeper underwent knee surgery days after the IPL final.
