What is the hottest/coldest January in Austin?

To determine the hottest or coldest January on record, we use the ‘average temperature’ for each month, combining the high and low recorded for each day. The average temperature in a typical January is 52.2°.

January 1923 was the hottest January on record, with an average temperature of 59.9°. In two other years, 1907 and 1952, the average January temperature was above 59 degrees.

Conversely, January 1930 was the coldest on record, with an average temperature of just 39.3°.

What is the hottest temperature in Austin in January?

The average high temperature for any January is 62.5°, but many days are warmer than that.

January 30, 1971 holds the record for the hottest January day ever in Austin, with a high of 90°. No other January day in recorded history has reached the 90° mark.

What is the coldest temperature in Austin in January?

The average low for any January is 41.8°, but many days are much colder than that.

January 31, 1949 holds the record for Austin’s coldest January day, with a low of -2°. The day before the ties, the low was 4°, the second coldest.
