On Sunday (June 4), the makers of 72 Hurriyan released their gritty teaser that gives a deep insight into the dark world of death bombings and terrorism. This is the ultimate reality check that these suicide bombers are the result of brainwashing And Jannat-Jahn fiction If films like ‘The Kerala Story’ are anything to go by, it will bust another myth about the dark side of the Islamic conversion factory.
We bring you the conversation The organizer 2021 with the makers of ’72 Hourian’.
The 51st edition of the Goa International Film Festival of India (IFFI) was celebrated with the screening of Sand Ki Ankh As the opening film. The decision surprised many critics as the film was produced by Anurag Kashyap and starred Taapsee Pannu. Ever since the NDA government came to power at the Centre, both of them have created many controversies and rifts against the central government and their vendettas based on their tweets and actions.
The recently concluded festival was held during the pandemic and registration was low. 1500 films were registered in different categories from different parts of the world. Maintaining Panorama’s decision to screen Anurag Kashyap’s film, Anita Chaudhary conducted an exclusive interview with Bollywood aspiring director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, who was part of the jury that selected the films for IFFI. We also discussed other topics related to the film industry. Sanjay has directed the award-winning Lahore and another of his ventures Bahatar Hurin is in the pipeline.
Why was it? Sand Ki Ankh Which film was chosen as the opening film of the festival given the director’s and lead actors’ ideological differences and negative attitude towards the Bharatiya Janata Party government at the Centre?
Although many jurors were surprised by this decision, the selection was made through a 100% democratic process by majority vote. The ‘right wing’ always believes in the ‘right approach’ for the ‘right cause’. The jury is out on whether the producer, director or actor is pro- or anti-government. Whether they are pseudo-secularists or not is irrelevant. This selection is not for reel heroes but for real life heroes like legendary myth breaking Grandmothers of Haryana Chando and Prakashi (Grandmothers). I do not follow any ideology. Creativity is my only ideology. I feel the right wing has the right approach to women empowerment and society.
Instead of focusing on films that have already been screened on different platforms, the festival should create its own identity and select innovative films by newcomers.
What is Bollywood’s approach to production and selection? Stories?
Bollywood has been dominated by the left lobby for a long time. The left dominant group still holds its ground and holds influence in Bollywood. The agenda of the so-called progressive filmmakers is actually to oppose the nationalist mindset and play with the sentiments of the audience of the majority Hindu community. But nowadays the audience is very aware. They rejected films based on this agenda. So the left lobby in Bollywood is unanimously blaming the government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), but they should look at their own culture and toe their line. The question is why audiences spend their hard-earned money to buy tickets for films misrepresented by their society and society. Bollywood is a small revenue-driven industry that contributes little to the country’s economy, but it has a huge impact on society and influences the thoughts and lifestyles of many audiences. Now, it is abusing the power of art for its personal vendettas.
Comment on the recent controversies surrounding the serial Thandavam?
Bollywood movies are generally vendetta-driven and agenda-driven. They do not worry about the sentiments of Hindus. Their aim is to demoralize them by using abusive language and misrepresenting the culture of the majority community. Using indecent dialogues in movies is not just a fashion, it is also malicious. Time has come to change Bollywood by keeping the sentiments of the audience. The views of moviegoers are very important. The success or failure of a movie does not depend on high budget and star cast but it depends on content, right message and positive impactful approach. Viewers these days have rejected agenda-driven entertainment. A case in point is the controversy surrounding Tandavam. The problem is that the film industry has found another platform to run their films on. A strict monitoring and control system needs to be put in place on the OTT platform.
Tell us about your upcoming project?
Soon my movie Bahatar Hoorin is going to release in Cineplex. The story revolves around the Islamic ideology of jihad, the justification of terrorism, and jihad advocated by radical Islamic clerics.
You have so many creative ideas but have only made two films in 16 years?
There are two reasons. One, I always like to do proper homework while making films and two, I have no family background in this industry. I am an outsider. Bollywood never welcomes outsiders.
