Who is Akash Madhwal?
Uttarakhand-born Madhwal was brought in to replace the injured Suryakumar Yadav in MI for the IPL 2022 season. He was retained by the team for a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
Former India opener Wasim Jaffer first met Madhwal in 2019 when he was coaching the Uttarakhand team. He was later signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021 but could not break into the team as he served only as a nets bowler.
He then joined MI in 2022 and became the first player to represent Uttarakhand in the IPL.
With Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah injured, the Mumbai team suffered a setback and Madhwal took 13 wickets in 7 matches.
Only Alzari Joseph, Sohail Tanvir and Adam Sampa (6 wickets each) have better bowling figures in IPL history after Kumble and Madhwal’s 5 for 5.
