BhaderwahOver 300 saplings were planted inside Bhaderwa District Jail in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (June 6) as part of a special plantation drive, an official said. Divisional Forest Officer Bhaderwa Chander Shekhar said the forest department, jail authorities and the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in collaboration under the Centre’s Mission Life on half an acre of barren land.
Various tree saplings including chinar and deodar were planted in a special drive to create awareness among the jail inmates and accompanying students about the importance of green cover, he said.
NCC cadets of higher secondary schools and Bhaderwa Jail inmates planted saplings of ornamental and medicinal plants in the drive, officials said.
Jail Superintendent Mushtaq Malla said the campaign aims to plant more trees to reduce the impact of pollution, conserve drinking water and promote eco-friendly practices like using cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic bags.
