Royal Challengers Bangalore have reportedly parted ways with Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar after IPL 2023. Both coaches were prominent members of the franchise’s backroom staff. Hesson joined RCB in 2019 while Bangar joined the camp in 2021. RCB failed to qualify for the second round of IPL 2023.
RCB had a better NRR than fourth-placed Mumbai Indians and one more win could have qualified them for the playoffs. The Indian Express reported that the franchise has released two prominent coaches and is now looking for new coaches.
Hesson joined RCB ahead of IPL 2020. He was one of the front-runners to become India’s head coach in 2019, finishing second behind the retained Ravi Shastri. Hesson joined Simon Katich at RCB a few days after missing out on being the head coach of Team India.
Bangar was unable to retain his job as Team India’s batting coach during that period. After taking up commentary, he stayed away from coaching for the next two years. The former Indian all-rounder has joined RCB as their batting consultant ahead of IPL 2021. He was appointed as the head coach of RCB for IPL 2022 and 2023.
