San Francisco, Jul 23 (IANS) Apple (NASDAQ: ) is reportedly not planning to launch the fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024. In a research note, Barclays (Lon:) Analysts Blaine Curtis and Tom O’Malley said the device is expected to feature an Apple-designed 5G modem, but plans appear to be delayed, MacRumors reports.
Apple appears to have been working on its own modem since at least 2018, and in 2019 it bought Intel’s (NASDAQ: ) entire smartphone modem division to support these efforts.
However, analysts believe that Qualcomm (NASDAQ: ) will continue to be Apple’s modem provider for the iPhone SE and iPhone 16 series next year as Apple’s modem is not yet ready, according to the report.
In February, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the next iPhone SE will be similar to the regular iPhone 14 with a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID and flat corners.
However, with the new iPhone SE apparently delayed, Apple’s plans for the smartphone may change in the future. According to Kuo and several other sources, the new iPhone SE won’t be released until at least 2025, so the current model is a safe buy for now, the report says.
Meanwhile, Apple’s recent patent application suggests that the company may be working on a rollable or scrollable iPhone.
The tech giant has filed a patent for a device with a rollable or scrollable display that suggests the technology could be featured in future products such as iPhones, iPads, televisions, desktop displays and vehicle dashboards, reports Gizmochina.
The US Patent & Trademark Office recently released a patent application based on Apple’s 2014 exploration of expandable displays. The invention relates to a device with a display that can be switched to a rolled-up state for storage and an unrolled state for viewing.
