Singapore Open 2023: Sindhu, Prannoy, Sen exit in first round;  Srikanth, Arjun-Dhruv in the second round

India’s ace shooters PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy lost their first round matches at the Singapore Open 2023 on Tuesday.

Sindhu’s match against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi stretched to three games and Sindhu failed to make a comeback after losing the second game. The Indian player lost to Japan with the score of 21-18, 19-21, 17-21 in an hour-long match.

Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Priyanshu Rajawat advanced to the round-of-16 after defeating Japan’s Kanta Tsuneyama 21-12, 21-15 in a match that lasted just 38 minutes.

On the other hand, the Indian pair of Arjun-Dhruv defeated France’s Lucas Corvey-Ronan Laber 21-16, 21-15 in 42 minutes.

After winning the first game, Lakshya Sen went down to Taiwan’s Chou Tian Chen. The Indian player lost the match with the score of 21-18, 17-21, 13-21 in one hour and nine minutes.

In other women’s singles events, Saina Nehwal and Akarshi Kashyap crashed out of the tournament in the first round.

Nehwal dominated Thailand’s former world number one Ratchanok Intanon 13-21, 15-21. Kashyap could not hold his own against Supanida Katethong. Southeast Asian gold medalist Katethong defeated India by 17-21, 9-21.

In other men’s events, Kidambi Srikanth and MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila entered the second round in doubles.

In 43 minutes, Srikanth defeated Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoyan with a score of 21-15, 21-19.
