Djokovic makes some strong defensive moves to force Khachanov to hit one more shot, the Russian fails to complete the point with an overhead smash but gets another chance, this time converting a forehand down the line winner – 15-30. Double fault by the Serbian. Two break points for Khachanov. A 19-shot rally, perhaps the longest of the match so far, was won by Djokovic with a corner-holding forehand – 30-40. Another long rally, 25 shots, same result – Djokovic wins point as Khachanov hits a crosscourt backhand long – deuce. A crosscourt backhand volley behind him into the net – Djokovic heads ad-40. Khachanov deuces again with a backhand winner. The Serbian misses a drop shot – Khachanov has a third break point chance. The Russian did all he could to break, but the simplest of crosscourt forehand volleys hit the wide-deuce again. Serve wide from Djokovic to deuce court, Khachanov hits a forehand return right to his feet, and the Serbian forehands long for Khachanov – a fourth break point opportunity. Djokovic saved break point again to give himself another chance with a backhand error. Finally, Khachanov breaks with an inside-out forehand that captures the inside sideline.
