“Money is good, but…”: Mitchell Starc reveals why he won’t play IPL 2023

Indian Premier League is the most attractive T20 tournament in the world and the biggest players want to participate in it. Some big players have even given up their international duties to play in the IPL, but Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is an exception.

Starc last played in the league in 2015, an eight-season absence. Recently, Starc gave an interview where he clarified that playing for Australia is his biggest motivation and he will do everything to extend his international career. All told, it’s not easy to turn down such hefty contracts.

Foreign pacers are always an attractive property at auction. Starc’s fellow Australian pacers Pat Cummins (Rs 15.50 crore in IPL 2020), Jay Richardson (Rs 14 crore in IPL 2021), Ryle Meredith (Rs 8 crore in IPL 2021) and others have fetched hefty sums in the bidding wars.

“Yes, the money is good, but I want to play 100 Test matches. Whether I got there or not, I don’t know, but it would be a good one to tick off. Hopefully I have some left in me.

Starc’s wife Alyssa Healy is a wicketkeeper in the Australian women’s cricket team and keeps herself busy throughout the year. They previously said that April is their only off-season month and they want to spend time together. This is a big reason behind Starc’s absence from the IPL.
