A SpiceJet aircraft caught fire during engine maintenance at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday. An airline spokesperson said both the aircraft and maintenance personnel were safe. The spokesman said that during maintenance work, the engineer noticed an engine fire warning while running the engine ground.
“On July 25, the SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was under maintenance. While operating the engine ground at idle power in the bay, the aircraft maintenance engineer observed a fire warning on the #1 engine. The plane’s fire extinguisher bottle was discharged,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
As a precautionary measure, a fire brigade was also called to the spot, the airline said.
An alleged video of the incident has also surfaced on social media and is going viral.
