An Air India flight from New Delhi to San Francisco was diverted to Russia due to engine failure. The plane landed safely in Magadan, airline officials said.
The aircraft was carrying 216 passengers and 16 crew members.
“Air India flight AI173 operating from Delhi to San Francisco developed a technical problem with one of its engines. The flight with 216 passengers and 16 crew members was diverted and landed safely at Magadan airport in Russia,” the airline’s spokesperson said.
“Passengers are being provided all assistance on the ground and alternate options will be provided to reach their destination as soon as possible. The aircraft is undergoing mandatory ground checks,” the spokesperson added.
Russian aviation authority Rosavietsia said it was ready to allow Air India to land a reserved plane, Reuters reported.
