Demand for school holidays has increased amid rain warnings in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: After the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad issued a red alert for Telangana due to very heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast in various districts of the state for three days, parents of school students started demanding a holiday for educational institutions.

Speaking to Siasat.com, Nausheen, a resident of Hyderabad, whose daughter studies in nursery standard in a school in Attapur, said that children, especially at the primary level, face a lot of problems in commuting to and from school during the rains.

He said the government should have announced a holiday, especially when the IMD had announced a red alert for Hyderabad and Telangana.

Many other parents also took to their Twitter accounts to express their anger and demand a holiday for schools in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana. One of them wrote, ‘Why are schools running today despite red alert in Hyderabad? Are schools and buses equipped with rain guards or what? Do you expect something to happen, then react?’

Last week, the Telangana government declared a holiday for schools and all other educational institutions in Hyderabad and other districts of the state due to heavy rains.

Parents are expecting the same this week due to the heavy rain warning in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana.

IMD Hyderabad predicts rain, issues red alert

The IMD has issued a red alert for Hyderabad Telangana due to very heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast in various districts of the state for the next three days.

For Hyderabad in particular, the IMD has issued an orange alert for today, forecasting moderate rain across all six districts – Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad and Serilingampally. Also, heavy rainfall is predicted in the city.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Hyderabad on July 26 and 27.
