Dry weather for metro Detroit continues to bring high fire danger — here’s what to expect

Dry weather for metro Detroit continues to bring high fire danger — here’s what to expect

4 Give a weather warning – After a sunny start on Monday, we’ve seen some clouds roll in during the afternoon and evening, and we’ll keep some of that cloud and drier weather in the forecast as we go through the day on Tuesday.

We’ve had a backdoor cold front, or a cold front moving north to south last night and this morning, so while it was in the 80s on Monday, we’ll only see the 70s this afternoon. So the temperature drops by a few degrees.

High fire danger Tuesday

The biggest concern Tuesday is the high fire danger across the region. The Storm Prediction Center has increased the fire risk in our area due to the dry weather we’ve seen over the past 16 days, so we’re now over 2 weeks in, with no significant rain, and part of the area is in a D0 drought. Labeled “abnormally dry” due to the severity, or lack of precipitation.

A high risk of wildfires continues today across southeast Michigan due to the lack of rain and dry conditions

Throughout the day Tuesday, some of us will see some gusty winds combined with the dry ground and low relative humidity involved in the forecast. This will create enough “fuel” for any fire placed outside to get out of control very quickly. If you burn outside, make sure the fire is constantly monitored and that there are several options available to quickly extinguish the fire if it gets out of control. Contact your local fire department with any questions and in the event of loss of fire control.

Dry weather continues

High pressure will continue to control the forecast through the middle and end of the coming week. Although we have cloud cover around us today, expect more sunshine to continue through the weekend and some more cloud cover to work its way into the area on Friday. Highs remain in the 70s through the weekend.

The much-needed rain is finally returning

Our next rain chance expected for the weekend moves into the area and looks like a decent chance for rain. A high-level disturbance will move into the region by Saturday evening and bring a chance of rain, so it will remain dry for most of the day. It looks like Sunday will be a humid day all day. As that disturbance moves east, we should end any rain. Temperatures climb back into the 80s early in the weekend, before cooling us down into the 70s by the end of the weekend.

Dry weather moves back into the forecast for early next week, expect a mix of sunshine and clouds, with temperatures remaining in the 70s and early next week.
