Fable Narrative Chief Anna Magill Quits Playground Games, Says A Heroic Team Remains

Fable Narrative lead Anna Magill has announced that she will be leaving Playground Games in August, and that a “heroic team” will continue to work on the highly-anticipated reboot.

Megill became the narrative protagonist of Fable in July 2022, and has been with Playground Games since February 2021, joining the team as Fable’s lead writer. Working on Fable has been a “dream come true” for her, and she had nothing but positive things to say when announcing her departure.

“Friends, I have news,” Megill wrote Twitter. “In August, I’m stepping down as the narrative lead in the story. I’ve had so many wonderful years written in my fairytale cottage, but the time seems right for new challenges.

“Working on Fable has been a dream come true for me, and it’s hard to leave. But Playground has assembled a formidable team, so I know it’s in good hands. I’m excited for what’s next—and for them.”

Immediately after her announcement, she responded loudly to those who were “silly,” immediately assuming that something was wrong with Fable or that her split with the studio was amicable.

“Some people are stupid, so let me be clear: I reached a good stopping point to jump off the project, so I did,” Megill said. “I’ve decided to take a short break before moving on to my next gig. That’s all. I have nothing but love and respect for the playground and my colleagues there.”

Fable is an upcoming reboot of the beloved Xbox franchise that started in 2004 and has officially been revealed for 2020. The game has been largely silent since then, but this year’s Xbox Games Showcase gave fans the best look yet at the project.
