PUNE: A 35-year-old fitness and health trainer from Gahunje area was duped by a cyber fraudster who lured him to earn extra money by following clients’ social media accounts.
Anand Girijashankar Nagich of Belmondo Housing Society, a native of Faridabad, Haryana, was killed. According to the complaint, the incident took place between July 16 and July 19.
Police said the complainant, a fitness trainer and health consultant, received a message on his mobile on the morning of July 16 from an unknown number claiming to be a representative of K Marketing Agency.
The caller claimed that the firm was working to increase their clients’ social media following and that the complainant would receive it. ₹Earn Rs 70 each for following social media accounts ₹24,000 a month. He also started getting paid to follow social media accounts of given clients.
Vanitha Dhumal, senior inspector, Srigaon police station, said, “Later, the accused shared a group link with the complainant and assigned specific tasks that would earn him money after completing it. After gaining the complainant’s trust, the accused sought to invest in the victim’s scheme and switched to a cryptocurrency trading platform promising better returns.
Ngaich said, “Along with the social media account follower task, they engaged me in other tasks, such as paid task and crypto currency investment, and I suffered a loss. ₹10.85 lakhs on account of investment.
Shirgaon Parandwadi police station registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act on Monday.
