For state governments in Malaysia, more funds are allocated each year for environmental protection – growing from 70 million in 2021 to 100 million in 2022 and 150 million this year.
Such allocations, known as environmental financial transfers (EFT), are made by the federal government as incentives to state governments to protect natural environments and wildlife habitats. These include protected areas such as forests, coastal areas, parts of the sea, rivers and lakes.
