“I will always be grateful to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for giving me the responsibility in the first place, and now I want whoever takes it on to have my full support in every success.”

Maguire has been a regular starter at United since his £80 million ($104 million) move from Leicester in 2019 and was named captain by former boss Solskjaer in January 2020.

He was re-appointed captain when Ten Haag replaced Solskjær at Old Trafford last summer, but his playing time has been significantly reduced with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez taking priority at centre-back.

On 31 May, ESPN reported that United were ready to listen to offers for Maguire this summer, expecting interest from West Ham, who made an inquiry about his availability in the January transfer window.
