The National Weather Service says heavy rain is possible in Central New York today

Syracuse, NY – Locally heavy rain is possible across Central New York today, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service has issued a hazardous weather watch for the region throughout the day and night. Isolated floods are also likely in areas of heavy rainfall, the Meteorological Center said.

Some thunderstorms moving through the region are likely to produce strong or extreme winds, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for showers late this morning, with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Some storms may produce strong winds and heavy rain. Other than that, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 84.

The weather service said new rainfall amounts could range from a quarter inch to half an inch.

With a front this afternoon, dry air is expected to move in through Monday. Dry weather will give clear skies. A chance of thunderstorms Monday afternoon.
