How to prevent dengue fever

Dengue and other severe dengue symptoms are the result of a viral disease spread by mosquito bites. Dengue patients often have a high temperature, headache, body aches, nausea, and a rash. Medical professionals have warned that 2023 could see more serious outbreaks of the disease in Bangladesh than in previous years, as the number of Aedes mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus surged in the early days of summer. To help you fight off the dengue virus, here are 5 ways to help prevent dengue fever.

Know the time

Aedes mosquitoes are usually active two hours after dawn and remain active until two hours before nightfall. Because they cannot tell the difference between natural and artificial light, these mosquitoes have been reported to attack brightly lit areas. Cover all windows with fine net screens if possible. If you live on a high floor, put a clear skylight in places other than the bedroom, where you need solitude and darkness to sleep.

From dark to UV light

Dengue mosquitoes usually hide behind curtains, beds, sinks, wardrobes, etc. If you are careful to close the windows, you will not be able to avoid mosquitoes. As a result, you can install an ultraviolet light above or near the entrance. Any flying bug will die in UV rays, not just mosquitoes. As a result, no dengue-carrying mosquito can set up shop anywhere near you.

Destroy mosquito habitats

Dengue fever mosquitoes thrive in containers with standing water such as tires, rubber covers, plant pots, pet water bowls, and sinks. So remove unwanted water from your home by draining flower pots and replacing and removing water-filled containers. Water any plants, make sure your septic tank and plumbing are in good working order, and cover any containers you use to store water. Eliminating mosquito breeding grounds helps reduce the spread of dengue fever significantly as mosquito breeding is inhibited.

Explore mosquito repellents

Mosquito repellents come in many varieties, including oils, lotions, sprays, patches, wipes, and coils. Keep mosquitoes away from you and others in the house by spraying the room, burning coils, or placing a liquidator. Sitting behind a mosquito net while working on a laptop, studying, doing housework or cooking is not always practical. So, apply mosquito repellent lotion on exposed skin before starting your activity. Some repellent lotions include vitamin E for skin protection, so choose one that suits your skin.

Boost immunity and induce sleep

In the past years we have learned the value of good immunity against diseases like dengue fever and corona virus. If you have a strong immune system, strong bugs won’t make you sick enough to go to the hospital. Therefore, the best way to prevent dengue fever is to boost your immunity by eating a healthy diet, exercising every day, and making other positive changes in your life. In fact, sleep under a mosquito net to get a good night’s sleep and protect yourself from dengue fever with a strong immune system.
