IPL 2023: Not a prince, he’s already a king – Akash Chopra ahead of CSK vs GT final

IPL 2023: Not a prince, he’s already a king – Akash Chopra ahead of CSK vs GT final

IPL 2023: Ahead of the IPL 2023 final between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT), Akash Chopra made a statement about Shubman Gill, saying he is not the crown prince as he is already the king.

Gill has been touted as the successor to ‘King’ Virat Kohli for the past few months and with his mind-blowing performances in IPL 2023, the GT opener has made the “Prince” tag completely his own.

In one of his Instagram stories, Kohli himself asked the batting sensation to guide the next generation. Gill is the highest run scorer in IPL 2023. The right-hander has scored 851 runs in 16 matches at an average of 60.78 and a strike rate of 156.43.

“This guy (Gill) bats differently. He’s not the crown prince, he’s already the king. Can he break Kohli’s record of 900-plus season? He’ll have to score 122 runs again. He’s hit three centuries in his last four innings,” Chopra was quoted as saying by CritTracker.

Gill has scored three centuries in the last four matches. He was also GT’s highest run scorer in Qualifier 1 in Chennai. Chopra predicted that CSK will find it difficult to contain Gill if they survive the opening overs.

“The only problem he has is the law of averages, other than that, nobody can stop this guy. If he can handle the new ball early on, the only threat he can make is Deepak Chahar, who controls him, and this player will strike again. He is a very strong player.”

While GT is aiming for their second straight IPL title, CSK is looking to clinch their record-equaling fifth IPL trophy.
