Karnataka: The active southwest monsoon has raised flood fears in the state, with many small streams overflowing after the rains. In view of incessant downpour and rain-related problems, the authorities on Monday declared holiday for schools and colleges in nine districts – Belagavi, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Hasan, Shivamoga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada and Kodagu districts. Temporary power outages, minor traffic disruptions and possible damage to ‘small’ and unprotected structures are expected in some areas of Karnataka.
Orange Alert – Yellow Alert
An orange alert has been declared in Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Shivamogga, while Belagavi, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura and Hassan are on yellow alert.
People washed away in Udupi
Meanwhile, a shocking video is doing the rounds on social media, where a 23-year-old youth from Bhadravati in Shivmoga district, Sharath Kumar, slips while standing on a rock right at the edge of the waterfall. According to reports, he went to Arishinagundi Falls in Byndur in Udupi district to make an Instagram video. A search operation is underway to find him.
