  • The starting price of the Kia Seltos facelift is on par with that of its main rivals. While the starting price of the Maruti Grand Vitara is lower than the new Seltos, the Skoda Kushack-Volkswagen Tygon duo has an entry point of over Rs 11.50 lakh.

  • Five of the seven compact SUVs mentioned above – save for the German duo – get the 1.5-litre petrol engine with manual and automatic options.

  • The facelifted Kia Seltos is the only compact SUV to offer a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) option with the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. At 160PS/253Nm, the new Seltos is the most powerful and torquiest SUV in its class.

  • Only the Skoda Kushak and Volkswagen Tiguan get a 6-speed manual gearbox option with the 1-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines.

  • If a CNG powertrain is what you want in this segment, your options are limited to Maruti and Toyota SUVs. They are also the only SUVs to come with the option of All-Wheel Drivetrain (AWD) with the top-spec manual variants.

  • At Rs 18.29 lakh, the new Seltos is one of the most expensive range-topping petrol-manual variants on offer thanks to premium features like a 10.25-inch digital driver display, 8-way powered driver’s seat and seat ventilation.

  • The most affordable are the automatic variants of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Highrider and MG Aster, with starting prices below Rs 14 lakh.

  • Of all the SUVs here, only the Seltos, Creta and Aster get the CVT option (MG offers an 8-speed unit with the SUV).

  • Both the Grand Vitara-Hyrider and Kushack-Tygan pair come with 6-speed torque converter automatics, though they’re limited to the German SUVs’ smaller 1-litre turbo-petrol unit.

  • Kia, Skoda and Volkswagen are the only car makers to offer a 7-speed DCT gearbox with their 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines.

  • MG’s turbo-petrol engine is the smallest here (1.3-litre unit), and it only comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

  • Seltos have the most expensive automatic variants in the form of GTX+ and X-Line priced at Rs 19.79 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh respectively. • Currently, the Hyundai Creta does not get a choice of the turbo unit found in the facelifted Seltos, but it will be offered with the launch of the Creta facelift, which is expected next year.
