Guwahati, July 15, 2023: Arunachal Pradesh will soon see the installation of advanced weather reading equipment and three large Doppler radar stations, Union Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju revealed on Friday. This development aims to provide accurate weather forecasts in the state, directly benefiting farmers in planning their agricultural operations to increase productivity and reduce losses.
Presiding over the farmers awareness programme, Minister Rijiju emphasized the importance of increasing agricultural productivity by utilizing scientific applications. Rijiju urged individuals to adopt scientific approaches and adjust their lifestyles accordingly as climate change has a significant impact on everyone’s lives.
Expressing his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rijiju acknowledged the NDA government’s initiatives for achieving progress in various sectors. These include improved road connectivity, electricity coverage in all villages, Direct Beneficiary Transfer System (DBT), mid-day meal scheme and many others that have positively impacted the country and the state of Arunachal Pradesh in particular.
Titled “Self-reliant farmers: Empowering farmers through agro-meteorological advisory services in climate change”, the event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Association of Agrometeorologists, State Department of Agriculture and Center for Earth Science. & Himalayan Studies. It aims to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge and resources to effectively navigate the challenges posed by climate change and promote self-sufficiency in agriculture.
