The Met Office has warned of a chance of thundery showers in Nottinghamshire

Thunderstorms are expected across Nottinghamshire today (July 15) following a wet start to July. Meteorologists said the rains have been widespread across the region since early morning.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a 50 percent chance of thunder and lightning at 1 pm today and a 60 percent chance of thunder at 4 pm. It comes as the Met Office warned of strong winds and heavy rain or showers across the UK over the coming days.

The Met Office’s chief meteorologist, Andy Page, said: “Such strong winds are an unusual time of year and with many people on holiday or planning outdoor activities, they are likely to cause some disruption. Also, heavy rains and thunderstorms can lead to waterlogging and splashing on roads, resulting in difficult driving conditions.

“Winds are expected to ease by the evening. Temperatures will be average or cooler over the next few days, especially with rain and wind.”
