Mumbai Weather: City on orange alert today as water storage in seven lakes reaches above 50 per cent amid heavy rains
Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai on Tuesday, indicating the possibility of heavy or very heavy rain at isolated places. Meanwhile, orange alert has been issued in Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts and yellow alert in Palghar today.

According to the five-day district forecast, the intensity of rainfall at isolated places is expected to decrease to “heavy” in the next two days, which will decrease to “moderate” on July 28, while a yellow alert has been issued. However, the orange alert will continue for two to three days.

The city recorded more than 100 mm of rain for the third time in the past week, with the Santa Cruz observatory recording 101 mm of rain between Sunday and Monday till 8.30 am. Meanwhile, the Coastal Observatory in Colaba recorded 45 mm of rain.

According to the seven-day forecast issued by the Regional Met Centre, monsoon activity will continue in Mumbai and the maximum temperature in the city will remain between 28 and 29 degrees Celsius till July-end, with the minimum temperature expected to rise by one or two degrees Celsius to 26 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

Water level in Mumbai lakes Now it is above 50 percent

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined water level in the seven reservoirs and lakes that supply drinking water to Mumbai has crossed 50.18 percent to 7,26,286 million litres. Although Tulsi Lake started overflowing on July 20, water levels in other lakes are still rising.

Water level in Thansa is 89.27 per cent, Modak-Sagar is 78.26 per cent and Madhya Vaitarna is 59.16 per cent, BMC data shows.

Incessant rains in Mumbai and other districts of Maharashtra for the past few days have caused the water level in Mumbai’s lakes to rise.
