Storm Oscar will affect the weather in Wales at the end of the week, bringing heavy rain and winds to the Canary Islands and Madeira.
UK weather will be pleasant and dry for most of this week as high pressure continues, but temperatures will rise to 27C over the weekend, with a higher chance of rain.
BBC Breakfast forecaster Carol Kirkwood explained: “Things are going to change as we head into the weekend. We’ve got Storm Oscar around the Bay of Biscay, which is bringing lots of heavy rain and strong winds to Madeira and the Canary Islands. It’s going to start working towards our coast, but it’s going to bring us cloud and rain.
“High pressure will pull in mild, moist air, so temperatures will rise over the weekend.”
The temperature map she shared over the weekend:
The Met Office says there is some indication that the center of high pressure that dominates the UK’s weather will move eastwards during the second half of this week as it allows winds to turn south-easterly and draw in warm air near the continent.
The weather may turn warmer and wetter, with temperatures reaching 20 degrees Celsius in places, especially in the south, by the weekend. This will bring a chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms across the southwest Friday and into Saturday, although such developments are currently somewhat uncertain.
It’s been more than three weeks since it rained in Wales. But BBC Wales meteorologist Derek Brockway says: “The long dry spell looks set to start to break next weekend. Low pressure west of Portugal will move in with the chance of some showers and thunderstorms. Still some sunshine, humidity and heat, with temperatures reaching 25C in some places.”
He shared the predicted temperatures for Cardiff this weekend:
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Paul Gundersen said: “As with last week, the west of the UK will be mostly sunny and warm, with cloudier conditions continuing in the east for the next few days. The cloud will push inland across the country overnight and burn up the East Coast during the day.
“The amount of clouds can vary from day to day and this will affect the weather in some areas. There is a small risk of isolated showers in northern areas on Wednesday.
Although some are enjoying the drier weather, it is boosting pollen levels in the south of the UK which are now high, giving some respite to the north where levels are lower.
