Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur may miss the first two matches of the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games for misusing equipment and publicly criticizing match officials after the third ODI against Bangladesh on Saturday. Harmanpreet was picked leg-before by Nahida Actor while trying to sweep, but she claimed she got the underhand and smashed the stumps in anger.

Later at the match presentation ceremony, she described the standard of umpiring as “pathetic” and mockingly called for the umpires to join the teams for the trophy ceremony.

Her misbehavior prompted Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana to walk out with her team, prompting her Indian counterpart to learn some “manners”.

“There is still some deliberation as to whether she should get three demerit points or four demerit points because she has two charges of misusing match equipment and criticizing match officials.

“If there are four demerit points in 24 months, you will miss either one Test or two limited-overs games — in this case the first two games of the Asiad. If three, she will face only a financial penalty,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.

ICC International Panel Match Referee Akhtar Ahmed from Bangladesh made the allegation against Harmanpreet.

The three-match ODI series ended in a 1-1 draw with the two teams tied for the same score of 225.
