In Uttarakhand and neighboring areas, rains are continuing incessantly. One to two rounds of heavy rain is likely in Dehradun on Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said. A yellow alert has been announced following this.

Gangotri Highway is closed near Laldhang

On Monday night, it rained in surrounding areas including Uttarkashi. The Gangotri National Highway is blocked near Laldhang due to landslides and rockfalls. Along with this, the power corporation’s line near Laldhang has also been broken. Due to this, power supply has stopped in Bhatwadi and Gangotri areas.

Monsoon rains are continuing in most parts of the state. However, instead of torrential rains, heavy rains have continued for the past week. Dehradun and surrounding areas remained cloudy since Monday morning.

It started raining in most parts of the city by 4 pm. At some places there was heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The water level in rivers and drains rose as the rain water began to flow on the roads. However, the rain subsided within an hour. The maximum temperature in Dehradun was continuously recorded four to six degrees Celsius above normal.

Meteorological Center Director Bikram Singh said that the same weather will continue in the state for the coming days. Isolated places of Dehradun, Tehri, Chamoli, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital and Bageshwar are likely to receive heavy rain today. A yellow alert has also been announced following this. Rain with thunder and lightning is likely in other districts.

Road blocked near Badrinath National Highway

Chamoli police said the road near Nandaprayag and Pursari on the Badrinath National Highway was blocked due to debris on Tuesday. The video of this has also been shared by Chamoli Police Uttarakhand officials on their Twitter handle.

A 100-metre stretch of the Badrinath highway collapsed at Kameda between Gauchar and Rudraprayag in Chamoli district on Sunday, with the retaining wall collapsing and disrupting traffic.

The Yamunotri highway near Dabarkot in Uttarkashi district could not be opened for the third day. Due to this, no pilgrim could visit the Yamunotri Dham for the last three days.

Meanwhile, the High Tension Line (HT Line) from Tehri Dam to Delhi is under threat following a landslide at the Tiger Reserve Park adjacent to BHEL in Haridwar. HT line can be damaged anytime during rainy season due to fall of poles. This may deepen the power crisis, the effect of which is likely to reach Delhi as well.
