World number two Novak Djokovic is bidding for his eighth Wimbledon title in the latest ATP tennis rankings and will equal Swiss legend Roger Federer as the best men’s singles player at the grass court Grand Slam.
With a win on Sunday, 36-year-old Novak Djokovic will match Margaret Court’s all-time record (open and amateur) of 24 Grand Slam titles.
Novak Djokovic is also the four-time defending champion at Wimbledon. Only Born Borg and Roger Federer have previously won five consecutive men’s singles titles at the All England Club.
Novak Djokovic booked his place at the Wimbledon 2023 final for his 35th Grand Slam summit with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 win over Italian Janic Zinner in the semi-finals on Friday.
Carlos Alcaraz reached his maiden Wimbledon final with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 win over Daniil Medvedev in the other semi.
Carlos Alcaraz will be playing in his second Grand Slam final. The Spaniard’s first Grand Slam title was the USA Open 2022. Alcaraz heads into Wimbledon 2023 after winning his first grass court trophy, the Queen’s Club Championship.
Novak Djokovic won the first two Grand Slams of the season – the Australian Open and the French Open. Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz met in the semi-finals of the French Open last month, where the Serbian defeated the Spaniard 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Djokovic defeated Casper Rudd in the final for his 23rd Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
The two players are tied 1-1 in head-to-head records, with Carlos Alcarez beating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals of the ATP Masters 1000 in Madrid last year.
In Saturday’s Wimbledon 2023 women’s singles final, Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Markta Vondrosova of the Czech Republic will face world number six Ons Jabir of Tunisia.
Jabir will be a returning finalist on Center Court after losing to Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the 2022 title clash.
